How to Properly Grind Down a Tree Stump With a Stump Grinding Machine

How to Properly Grind Down a Tree Stump With a Stump Grinding Machine
By Vince Stead Platinum Quality Author

How to properly grind down a tree stump the right way with a stump grinding machine. There are several sizes of stump grinding machines, from the smaller units that you can fit onto your back, and carry up a slope or hill, and grind down medium to small size tree stumps. And then there are medium size stump grinders, that you can generally rent from your local rental yard store. Then their are bigger size machines, that need more room, and usually charge more, but can do them faster. You also have giant size machines that can blow you away, if you can find a clip on YouTube or cable television.

We will assume you are going to do it yourself, and you rent a standard size 13hp stump grinding machine. The front of the machine has a blade almost like a circular saw, but with carbide teeth. These teeth are very hard, and if you want to grind them down yourself, you need a green grinding wheel to do that.

The one of the biggest hazards of stump grinding, is one of the teeth can fly out, and I own 2 stump grinding machines, with a small part time stump grinding business in San Diego. And I have saw what a stump grinding tooth can do when it comes out. The guard over my machine, is metal, and the strait tooth shot right threw the metal, and it was a perfect square, with protruding metal, just like a bullet hole. So you have to make sure the teeth are totally tight. Check for any loose teeth, and best to tighten each one, especially if it is a rental, the guy at the shop might not be the brightest light in the shed, so take it open yourself, the teeth coming out is the most dangerous thing just about.

The 2nd most challenging thing is small rocks. if your stump is in dirt that has small rocks, your best to try and dig out as many as you can, before you start. You would want to put up plywood walls around your work area, so no rocks or small chips fly out, especially if you are working around windows or delicate items.

Most cities have a telephone number that you can call if you want to dig in your yard. Most stump grinding usually goes down about 6 inches below the grade, so you can put in your concrete, sod, new grass, mulch, new yard, or whatever, and the machines can go down deeper than that, but the more deeper, the more harder to control the machine.

Once you have the machine in front of the stump, set the blade up on the stump, and then make sure the wheel is off the stump, and start the machine, each machine will be different, some will be self propelled, some with brakes, some with different things. One stump grinding machine I have is for going up close to the house or fence, and getting it to the side, without hitting things.

Stump grinding is hard work. You will sweat if you have a pretty good size stump. It's also fun to stump grind. You just have to slowly slide the machine back and forth, over the stump, and slowly start watching the stump turn to butter from the machine. It will shoot out your side discharge, and pile up.

Depending on what type of tree it is, hardwood or softwood, and how sharp the teeth were from the store you rented the machine from. In San Diego, the average price to rent a machine is roughly $125. We grind average size tree stumps for this price, and the home owner does not have to go and rent the machine, pick it up and bring it home, about 250 pounds for an average 13hp machine, and then you still have to do the work, and hope something does not go wrong with the machine, because they are just like a Harley Davidson, they vibrate and things come loose, because stump grinding is a tough job, some stumps just don't want to come out sometimes, and you end up swearing at the thing, and sweating your ass off, and you get the job done.

So thinking you are saving money by renting a machine for $125 and doing it yourself, you might want to think again. We are loaded and ready to go pretty quick most of the time. If a contractor is putting in a new fence, or sidewalk, he usually can't do it with stumps in the way, and needs it done quick, but we charge the price of renting a machine, and since we are cheaper than anyone we believe, and will beat any price, if they just ask us, or offer us a price to do a certain job, I don't usually say no, and veterans get a better deal, 10% off.

You can see what an average stump grinder looks like at Discount Stump Grinding.

The mulch and saw dust you have afterwords, is great for the yard, is biodegradable, and if mixed properly, is great soil amendment, and looks great around bushes and shrubs. A stump will usually make about 3 times the size of mulch or sawdust, so you will get a lot.

How Our Trip to the Hearst Castle Tour Went

We had a pretty good time at the weekend getaway we took to Hearst Castle.

We stayed at a small motel just several miles from the large estate with the giant castle on top. We were virtually out in the middle of nowhere, and it ended up being one of the best little getaways we ever had, we even caught up on some much deserved rest!

The trip to Hearst Castle was very impressive, I must admit. I knew very little about the man and the castle, and they clear that up right away, when you watch a short movie about the man and the castle, and it immediately becomes very very interesting!

You park at the bottom of the mountain, and you take buses up to the top. Our bus driver must have been a race car driver in his earlier days, and the winding steep road is trip all by itself! My wife loved it!

The castle is beautiful and just very impressive. The castle is broken up into several tours, and you have to buy each one. We really enjoyed our weekend getaway, for just the two of us.

I don't know what I was think, but several months later, we wanted to go back to Hearst Castle and take a different tour, but this time we brought 2 of the kids with us, to show them the castle and tour. We went on day that was a holiday, and after driving for over 400 miles, we went the next day, and I did not ever think the tours would be sold out, but when we got their, all tours were sold out, and we wasted so much time, it never dawned on me the tour would be sold out, it was not a hotel, just a tour. It is a public state park now, and the state or government runs it, and I still want to go back again, just don't have the time. You will really enjoy the park, just make sure you get tickets ahead of time, especially if you are driving from far away!

Sources to buy Good Quality Wholesale Merchandise to Resell

Merchandise Sources
for:

Retail Stores, Swapmeet & Flea Market and Business Owners

A lot of businesses have been started from the owner selling first at a swap meet or flea market and then moving up into a store location. You can make a full time living, selling at swapmeets, on the weekends, if you have plenty of items to sell. Most swapmeets charge you a certain amount of money, for each parking space that you take.
You take all your supplies with you, and set everything up, and sell your items until the end of the day, when you take it back down, and wait to do it again. The best thing about a swapmeet business, is, that there is generally a lot of foot traffic, and you will have a large customer base to show your wares to.
Later, there is a list of companies that have great items, that most people can start out selling at swapmeets, and flea markets. There are thousands of companies that sell all the items you see at any swapmeet in America. Tto get the widest taste, of all these companies, it would be good to attend a trade show, in Las Vegas, or Atlantic City, twice a year for the big ASD/AMD trade shows. To attend, you usually need business credentials, like a business card, resell permit, or business license, to get registered.
The big trade shows, have over 3,000 companies that attend to sell, and over 50,000 store owners, and swapmeet vendors, go their, to buy new items, from all over the world. The list below, is just a taste of some of the companies, but, they are all respectable companies, in their selling fields.

On the average, the items you see at a .99 cent or Dollar Store, would net the owner 40 cents profit on every dollar item sold on average, so if a store does $1,000 a day for 30 days, they would gross $30,000 and the net before all expenses would be $12,000. A lot of dollar stores started out selling at swap meets, especially in the Southern California area, dollar stores are about on every corner these days. They still have name brands with good values. Some of the bigger chains of dollar stores are traded on the stock market, so it is very much big business now.

About the Author: Vince Stead started working at an early age in life. As a child, his father owned a string of bakeries, and Vince's job in elementary school was to put filling and icing on top of all of donuts for all his dads bakeries on the weekends. As a teenager he worked in a restaurant and grocery store. Vince always had side jobs selling or doing some sort of service for folks in his neighborhood like mowing the lawn, or shoveling snow. Right out of high school he joined the Navy and also dabbled in business while also taking some college course while in the Navy. Vince has traveled to 13 countries and was able to travel around the world in 1986, by way of a Navy destroyer and Air Force cargo planes. After leaving the Navy, Vince did many of the ideas in this book here, lots of them as a matter of fact.

After seeing a man in San Diego selling everything at an outdoor swapmeet for everything for $1. He decided he wanted to have a booth like that because the mans line was so long with paying customers. Vince opened the first .99 cent store in North County in 1990 in Oceanside, California. He eventually opened another one in Escondido, California. While running his two stores, Vince set up a warehouse in Oceanside, California for extra storage for his stores and to also started to wholesale his products to other stores in California and other states. Eventually dollar stores popped up on almost every corner, and the internet was just becoming of age to the average home owner. Vince sold full time on all the auction sites when he first got his first computer, eventually going to just his own website and advertising it in magazines and on the internet to get wholesale customers to visit his site at bargainpricewholesale.com that is still open today.

Vince has been self-employed ever since being a teenager, and now he is in his 40's. His father was self employed for over 55 years in various businesses, and most of his 7 brothers and sisters have all owned their own business at one time or another. Today Vince still runs the website, he has authored several books and raises mastiff dogs, and likes to get away to their weekend home that is 2 hours away and relax when time permits!

You can also get most all of my books as digital downloads for only $2.99!

Start your own Portable Bathroom Service Business

Portable Bathroom Service

You can start your own business, and work for yourself, with your own, unique, portable bathroom service. Now, don't laugh, but somebody is going to make money with them, it might as well be you, don't you think? If you could build a better mouse trap, so to speak, you could really market the portable bathroom business service. How many times have you been to a picnic, fair, outdoor event, construction site, park, sporting event, etc... and have had to use one of those plastic, portable, public bathrooms, that are common almost everywhere.
Usually they are pretty nasty and narly inside, if you ever have the bad experience of having to use one! You could start you own business, and make much better bathrooms for customers, you could hit it big maybe. You could start with ordinary portable bathrooms, you can buy, and haul on a trailer, and rent them out yourself, and manage them. But what if you built a better one, one that you could charge $1, or $2 or more, to use. Someone would pay that, if they knew the inside was much cleaner, private, safe, and more luxurious inside.
If your bathroom had granite counter tops, porcelain bowls, tile surround sound, and new and updated features, and room for several "clients" at a time, somebody for sure would want to use your portable toilet. If you could build the ultimate bathroom, and monitor it, even with a tuxedo on, when you wait on customers, would be pretty eye catchy, to say the least. Customers would pay, just to see what you have done inside, to your mobile bathroom.
You could arrange to be at countless activities, where your service would just knock the socks off, of everyone else’s bathrooms. You could also rent your portable bathroom out, to events like rodeos, car shows, flea markets, etc... on a event basis, making it accessible to everyone, for the whole event. you can advertise, and get other contracts for your portable bathrooms, while you're "busy" getting new clients. If you can use your imagination, and build something, you would not mind your own family using, and it would be top of the line, you could have a fun and unique business experience.

Start your own Mobile Oil Change Business

Mobile Oil Change

You can start your own business working for yourself, offering to simply change the oil in peoples autos for them. You can set up a system where you can remind previous customers that it is time for an oil change, and they can call you anytime. everyone wants an oil change, but occasionally people are to busy, or just plain forget to get it done. Most cars and trucks need their oil changed every 3,000 miles.
You could make up a flyer that says you come by every 2 weeks or so, and that you will change the oil in any of the cars in the parking lot, for such and such a price, that you want to charge them for your service. You could easily have regular customers who would come to rely on your services on a regular basis. You could go to office buildings, industrial centers, factories, and more, that have big parking lots, and lots of workers inside. You could offer to change the oil in all cars for a certain price, you would only need to bring the oil and tools with you, and buy the oil filters close by.
People would find your service to be great, and then each day you could service a different section of town. You would only need to change the oil in several cars each day to make good money. You could make up a flyer, saying how much you charge, for oil changes, and notifying them that you will be around all the time, on a regular basis. This system will make you get more customers than if you just try to do spot oil changes all over town. You will get a lot of repeat business, and then you can grow your business with helpers who go out and change the oil for you in cars.
